BOOK: A CONCRETE FOR THE ‘OTHER HALF’
05/2021

In 2020 I was part of the Bauhaus Lab. The Bauhaus Lab is a three month research program for post graduates from all over the world with a focus on architecture, design and curating. This book is (next to the exhibition) the result of the residency.

Through the lense of sulphur concrete block produced by the Minimum Cost Housing Group (MCHG) in 1972 the Bauhaus Lab 2020 researched the need for housing in ‘developing countries’ during the postwar II era and the changing role of the architect as a provider of self-build instructions. The book addresses the historical and architectural complexities of post-colonial times and explores the sulphur concrete block as an archived object in the Canadian Centre for Architecture.

I wrote two essays. One on the digitalisation of analogue archival collections and an essay on sulphur as a low-cost construction material. In addition I layouted the book. .
